POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will be responsible for efficiency, quality and manufacturing process improvements within the Gienow Window & Doors’ Calgary facility. To ensure success within this environment, the candidate must have a strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles, Process Flow, Value Stream Mapping, Takt and Cycletime adjustments as it applies to Manufacturing. A good knowledge of jig, fixture and machine part design is also required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Industrial, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering degree or Industrial, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering Technologist diploma with a minimum of 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Intermediate or better drafting experience using AutoCad and Inventor.
- Ability to lead and manage projects.
- Excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
- Strong mechanical understanding and background.
- Demonstrate attention to detail and leadership skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Functions well working independently and in team environments.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop tooling for process improvements within through-put, quality & product requirements.
- Perform time studies, balance process to takt time & prepare system labour change requests.
- Prepare work instructions and carry out shop floor training.
- Maintain a close relationship with Production Managers and Maintenance staff.
- Work with Engineering Product Development staff to implement new products.
- Be a project member and/or leader for new machine, process and product implementations.
- Review processes and derive continuous improvement strategies and develop project plans to implement.
- Prepare opportunity documentation outlining benefits to the company and Return on Investment evaluations (RIOs).
- Prepare plant layout change requests and facilitate physical moves of equipment with Maintenance and Production.
- Manage work from outside Subcontractors and outsource tool manufacturing if in-house resources are not available, ensuring on-time tool procurement.
AUTHORITY:
- Authority to shut down equipment if there are any safety or quality concerns in the use of the equipment.
- Sign off temporary Engineering changes and Work Instructions.
- Decisions made regarding outside supply of tooling and in-house process improvement action items.
ADDITIONAL ASSETS:
- Working experience in a window and/or door manufacturing facility.
- C.E.T. with ASET or other provincial association.
- E.I.T. or P.Eng with APEGGA or other provincial association.
- Other related technical degrees, diplomas and/or certificates.
- Knowledge of national / provincial building codes, safety regulations, etc.
- Member of related technical associations, councils, boards, etc.
- Attendance and participation at professional development training seminars.Closing Date: 8/26/2010
