JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will be responsible for managing the organization’s Health and Safety Program, along with all WCB, Environmental and Risk Management-related initiatives in all branches and plants in the Gienow Group. The Health and Safety advisor will also offer expert knowledge and skills in order to generate and promote a positive health and safety culture. This represents a key role in helping control occupational risk.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
7 - 10 years of related experience as a Safety Professional
Current professional designation or ability to achieve CRSP or other OHS designation as required.
Demonstrated working knowledge of safety regulations and standards in Alberta; knowledge of provincial legislation in other western provinces
Experience in managing and auditing H&S management systems such as COR and Risk-management programs such as fleet safety
Strong communication and facilitation skills
Investigation and problem solving skills
Demonstrated commitment to client service and creating "Buy-in" with leaders and employees
Good Computer skills in Word, Excel
Valid Alberta Drivers license.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for ensuring that all safety legislation is adhered to and policies and practices are adopted
Plan, implement, monitor and review the protective and preventative measures that companies are required or choose to follow, and work to minimize operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents and injuries.
In conjunction with the company nurse, ensures WCB regulations and processes, including the modified work program, are consistently reported and administered
Work with the Management team to educate employees and implement improvement plans
Conduct project level hazard identification and develop mitigation strategies
Responsible for leading the Joint Health and Safety committee and meetings
Assist or facilitate investigations of accidents and incidents, as well as follow-up on actions. Provide insight to employees on incident prevention
Maintain training records, arranging for training courses and ensuring staff have all safety certifications required to complete their work
Track and coordinate purchasing of PPE and other safety equipment
Provide monthly reports to benchmark progress of safety program (IE: incidents, claim costs, etc)
Conduct random and scheduled site visits.
AUTHORITY:
To shut down work areas when there is safety hazards that have a reasonable potential of causing severe damage injury or death.Closing Date: 8/26/2010
