Safety

Gienow Safety Policy

Gienow Windows & Doors is committed to maintaining high standards of quality, safety, health and environmental care. We comply with all applicable regulations and apply reasonable standards where laws and regulations do not exist. Our goal is to pursue zero injuries, illnesses or incidents both on and off the job.

To achieve our goals, the corporation has implemented a health & safety system to manage our loss prevention efforts. This system provides our employees with measurable guidelines for all aspects of planning, training, maintenance, purchasing and in particular the identification and control of workplace hazards.

In addition, the corporation will promote the use of industry best practices and work instructions that establish safe behaviors.  A very important element of the health and safety program is incident reporting.  Employees are expected to report all incidents so that these can be investigated. Through proper investigation, everyone can learn from these events and similar incidents may be avoided in future.  The effectiveness of our health & safety program will be further monitored through the periodic review of our performance indicators and action planning.

Employees at all levels and contractors are personally accountable for complying with this program and applicable government regulations. Through everyone’s constant participation, Gienow will attain its safety goals and protect the wellness of our people, customers and the environment.

Certificate of Recognition

We are proud to say that, in December 2002, Gienow Building Products Ltd. received the Certificate of Recognition for its participation in Alberta’s Partnerships in Health and Safety Program. The Certificate recognizes that we, in keeping with the principals of Partnerships, have developed and implemented a workplace health and safety management system and have met the standard for Partnerships through an independent evaluation of our health and safety system.

Partner in Injury Reduction

The Partners in Injury Reduction (PIR) is a program aimed at injury prevention in the workplace, and the development of an effective disability management system.  By maintaining a quality health and safety system, we can reduce accidents, promote a safe workplace, and improve employee’s job satisfaction.

Gienow has maintained an injury rate that is lower than industry average for the past eight years.  We strive to reduce injuries every year by setting goals for ourselves and achieving them through our health and safety program.

Disability Management

We value our staff and do everything in our power to maintain their regular work life after an incident.  Gienow has a comprehensive modified work program to help employees transition back to full health.  We are able to customize modified work positions to fit most types of work restrictions.  We work closely with the Workers Compensation Board and our employees to manage their rehabilitation and successful return work.
