Awning Windows

Awning windows are hinged from the top and open outward from the bottom. This is perfect for climates that get frequent storms and rain because they allow for ventilation and protection from the rain.

Awning Placements and Combinations

Awning windows are often used to increase ventilation and still protect from the elements.  They’re sometimes placed high up on walls for increased privacy, over doors, or in combination with picture or casement windows.

Often awning windows are paired in combination with non-operational windows like picture windows.

The Difference Between Casement and Awning Windows

While both sometimes called ‘crank windows’, these two styles are fundamentally different. Both styles open with a cranking mechanism, however awning windows open from the bottom whereas casements open outward like a door. Awning windows are made for areas in which the width is greater than the height.

Both styles require a fair amount of free space outside your home in order to properly open. We recommend installing awning windows in areas without trees, shrubs or other obstructions.
